If you’re anything like us, you have a never-ending pile of cardstock scraps taking up space in your craft room. And while we love finding new ways to use them up, sometimes it’s hard to know what to do with all those little pieces. One great way to use up cardstock scraps is to make airplanes! This is a fun project for kids and adults alike, and it’s a great way to get creative with your scraps.
To make an airplane out of cardstock, you’ll need:
A4 or Letter size cardstock, Scissors, Ruler, Pencil, Glue, String or yarn (optional). You’ll get different cardstocks and other materials from 12×12 Cardstock Shop as well.
First, you’ll need to cut out a rectangle from your cardstock. The size of the rectangle will depend on the size of the airplane you want to make. For a small airplane, we recommend cutting a rectangle that is 10cm x 15cm. For a larger airplane, you can cut a rectangle that is 15cm x 20cm. Once you have your rectangle, fold it in half lengthwise. Then, use a pencil to draw a line down the center of the fold. This will be your guide for folding the wings of the airplane.
Next, cut two slits along the line you just drew, stopping about 2cm from the edge of the paper. Then, fold the flaps you just created outwards to create the wings of the airplane.
Now it’s time to decorate your airplane! You can use whatever scraps you have on hand to make it your own. May it be a scrap of smooth cardstock, textured cardstock or a glitter cardstock paper, you can use anything you like. We like to add a strip of patterned paper to the body of the airplane, and we also like to embellish the wings with stickers or die cuts.
Once your airplane is decorated, it’s time to assemble it. Fold the body of the airplane in half so that the wings are sticking up. Then, apply glue to the bottom edge of the wings and attach them to the body of the airplane. Finally, if you want to, you can add a string or yarn loop to the top of the airplane so that it can be hung up. And that’s it! Your cardstock airplane is now complete. We hope you had fun making it and that you’ll enjoy flying it around your house.
There are many ways to make airplanes with cardstock papers. Another easiest way is to score a piece of cardstock paper lengthwise in the center, and then fold the paper in half. Next, cut two small slits in the center of the paper, and then insert the end of a straw into each slit. Finally, blow into the straws to make the airplane fly. Children will surely enjoy playing with this easy-to-make cardstock airplane.
